HIGH FIVE HAIR
ABOUT HIGH FIVE HAIR
HFH began as a dream while Emily searched for her new favorite hairdresser. She wanted someone that was intentional about the products they used, took extra time + care during the consultation, didn’t mind chatting, but also didn’t feel weird about being quiet. She wanted somebody that wasn’t afraid of thick hair, that was inclusive, + able to help everyone feel comfortable.
While she found many great stylists, it wasn’t quite right, so she decided to create her own perfect hair business.
When Emily was in beauty school it became clear how underserved curly/wavy-haired people are + just how toxic some everyday products can be. She decided early on to commit to specializing in cutting + styling all curls/waves + using non-toxic products with minimal + recyclable packaging.
High Five Hair is committed to using “clean” products with thoughtful packaging that leaves a minimal trace, continuing education focused on curly hair of all types, + ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for all.
About Emily
Emily Sullivan (she/her) is the founder of High Five Hair. She came to the beauty industry from a bit of a non-traditional background. After graduating from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Linguistics + Anthropology, she began her journey working on small organic farms + in local restaurants. She was ½ of the team that started a small organic garden + artisanal bakery in West Virginia. While she loved her decade in the local food movement, she decided to explore cosmetology to connect with people + bring how they see themselves to life. With her background in food, Emily is neurotic about choosing products that are good for the customers that use them and for the planet.
